My pick for the US Women’s Team
I’m going out of town tomorrow morning and will miss all the coverage of Day 2 for the US Women’s Olympic Trials. I’ll be on a camping road trip so I likely won’t know anything until the first of July. So based on what I saw tonight from Day 1 (and from Nationals), here’s who is on my team…

Ivana Hong, Shayla Worley, Jana Bieger & Mattie Larson are all legit contenders as well. With the team scenario I listed above, I think that Bridget would be used on Bars only and if that is the case, she can bring in the highest score there (compared to Hong, Worley, Bieger & Larson). this competition was the first competition since December that Bridget has competed floor out in an arena like this and I think she’s still getting herself mentally ready to compete cleanly
at least she’s over-rotating skills rather than under-rotating them, I really want her on this team and I want her to shine

I would put Bieger over Sloan. She has been hitting like a monster and is better off health-wise.

I agree that Bieger is over Sloan. She has the experience to fill in for anything. Peszek fills in for beam vault and floor anyway. They need a dependable bars worker, and that is Bieger.

Although I really love Worley and Hong’s gymnastics, they are not constant enough… I know Worley is injured, but still… really Bieger seems more confident and her timing is better… So:

In order to put Worley or Sloane on the team, they would have to get healthy and do a really good training camp. But I am afraid time is running out…I think they will be alternates, as well as Hong… Mattie Larson is really good and I think she will be national champion in a few years….

(shawn could get the same score as shayla on bars but i dont think it is safe to make someone do AA in team finals - way too much pressure on one person

I know im cheating by referencing night two, but Bridget had a disastorous night, with like 3 falls. I agree with everything but bars. For me, it would be either Bieger or Hong. I know Worley was OK too, but I think taking an injured player would be too risky. Also, Bieger would be a lock for me, but who knows how international judges will score her? Its a bit risky. Even after worlds last year, I still feel like Hong is less of a risk, especially since she’s reworked her routine since then.

Sorry to disagree, but if Bridget is mentally unstable, then Shayla Worley in physically unstable. Her back injury scares me- its almost like you hold your breath everytime she goes because she looks so unsure. Unless she can gain some confidence during the camp (how will we know anyway) she’s a bit risky.

How do you guys think the team will be comprised now with Shayla’s leg injury today? I have been following Steve McCain’s commentary from the ranch and her injury seems pretty severe. Limping around and in a lot of pain. it seems like the 2nd tough break for USA Olympic team after the women’s soccer played went down with a broken leg!

I read that yesterday too. It’s soo sad. She would have made the team.
Now I don’t really care who makes it though I think it’s going to be Sloan,Hong,Larson, or Lothrop.
