I hadn’t heard of Tasha Smith until earlier this year. She’s a gymnast in her junior year at Oregon State University and she has got some spunk.

She choreographs her own Floor routines and they are really something else. She’s got her own style and it’s different from the other NCAA floor routines out there. It’s refreshing and fun to watch. I mean, seriously, the girl plays the air guitar after her first pass…
I’ve been hoping to find a youtube video of her that would capture this year’s routine well. It’s really best when viewed in person and although this video isn’t taken from the best angle for her routine, it’s still a good one to give you an idea. And even better, she happened to score a perfect 10.00 on this one. You can’t beat that.
What do the rest of you think? Like it?

I’ve watched Tasha since her compulsory days and she definitely has springs in her legs. I like her routine from last year more though: http://youtube.com/watch?v=J0LFLWd4nqM. Just a little more creative in my mind. And while her tumbling is pretty lights out (if she did a 2 1/2-punch layout instead of 1 1/2-punch layout for the second pass I think she could be a shoo-in for the natl. title), her toes aren’t always pointed and she walks with flexed feet. Just the ballerina in me watching though! It’s great to see a Washington-bred gymnast doing so well.

yeesh. this was very lack luster. her tumbling and power is undeniable but its a whole lot of standing in one spot and shaking her shoulders. she doesnt really cover the floor well and her limbs seem to go limp if they aren’t engaged in the dance move. I definitely give props for being original and thinking out of the box, because the majority of current international caliber routines are uber bland.
