It has been quite some time since my last post. I’ve been wanting to post on the 2006 Women’s NCAAs since it aired but I misplaced the tape for several weeks. When I finally located the tape, I had taped over the coverage of the competition! So here are a few of my thoughts from memory.

Courtney Kupets (University of Georgia)

1. Courtney Kupets…wow! She looked absolutely amazing. Her floor choreography was outstanding. It now ranks as my favorite collegiate floor routine of all time. Her double layout dismount off bars is also top notch and stands out in my memory. I wasn’t surprised at all that she took the top spot in the All-Around, as well as on Bars & Beam (shared in the latter two events).

2. Tiffany Tolnay. Where in the world did this gymnast come from? I had never even heard of her and she really turned in some top notch performances for Georgia.

3. As usual, I enjoyed Ashley Miles‘ (Alabama) high-energy performances. I was happy she went out on top on Vault. After a disappointing finish for the Tide in the team competition, it was a great way to finish off her senior year.

4. Like everyone else, I was shocked to see that UCLA failed to qualify to the competition. Being a southern California resident, I usually root for the Bruin. But Georgia really dominated the competition and I quickly forgot that I was a Bruin fan! They truly look to be unbeatable in the years to come.

5. Gymnasts I would have liked to see more of in the televised coverage: Ashley Postell (Utah), Kristina Baskett (Utah), Tabitha Yim (Stanford), Liz Tricase (Stanford), Kristina Comforte (UCLA), to name a few.

6. Gymnasts I look forward to seeing in collegiate action next year: Courtney McCool (Georgia), a healthy Tasha Schwikert (UCLA), Sarah Shire (Utah), Ariana Berlin (UCLA) & Ashely Kupets (Georgia), among others.

Did any of you see the competition. What did you think?
